Summer holiday reads

2014 was certainly the year that I rediscovered reading. Don't get me wrong, I love a good magazine and of course I am constantly trawling blogs. But I have really thrown myself at the good old tangible paperback or for that matter a hefty hard-cover. Yep, I am now a total book worm!

With a summer getaway just around the corner I have stocked up on my reading material ensuring that I have a good mix of business bibles and inspirational titles.

Here's what I am packing along with my beach chair this summer:

Daring & disruptive, summer holiday reads

1. DARING & DISRUPTIVE - LISA MESSENGER

I have been meaning to purchase this book ever since it was first released earlier in 2014 (sorry Lisa a little slow on the uptake). So after a last minute release on The Collective website I decided to gift it to myself for Christmas. I have purchased every issue of the Renegade Collective magazine and since deciding to launch my very own business have turned to their pages every month for inspiration. I cannot wait to hear all about Lisa's own journey.

2. HOW TO BE PARISIAN - SOPHIE MAS, AUDREY DIWAN, CAROLINE DE MAIGRET & ANNE BEREST

You would be lying if you said you never dreamed of being totally and utterly Parisian, right? Well now you can be, and from wherever you are in the world for that matter thanks to these four super chic Parisiennes. The ladies have put together a guide on what it truly takes to be Parisienne in the 21st Century. It even comes complete with cut-outs so you can a have piece of Paris with you wherever you go! Sweet! Cue the breton stripes and the femme fatale red lipstick.

3. THE MONOCLE GUIDE TO GOOD BUSINESS - GESTALTEN

A business empire has to start somewhere - Monocle

That is exactly right and thank you Monocle for publishing such a brilliant bible. Okay so I cheated with this book it hasn't been saved entirely for reading on my summer holiday. Once I had this baby in my hands I just had to open the front cover and start reading and it is has certainly been a hard one to put down. If you have even a just inkling that you might like to start your own business do yourself a favour and invest in this book. I have already raved about this title on social media, so I am going to stop right there and let you explore it for yourself. However, If you aren't already familiar with the Monocle brand jump online now for an instant hit of inspiration through their live podcasts.

4. KINFOLK - VOLUME FOURTEEN

The Winter Issue. Even though it is 28 degrees and sunny outside as I reccomend a "Winter" issue of a magazine to you, Kinfolk is an evergreen source of inspiration for me. Not only do I love the Kinfolk view on lifestyle, their carefully curated pages of beautiful imagery that accompany their stories, interviews and recipes is a source of inspiration for my photography. Side note - Are you planning an overseas trip and looking to explore stores, cafes or restaurants that are a little off the beaten track? Or maybe you want to rest your head somewhere with a bit of character? Then be sure to stop by the Kinfolk City Guides page and be prepared to start planning your next stop over in Copenhagen now!

5. THE ART OF SOCIAL MEDIA - GUY KAWASAKI & PEG FITZPATRICK

I am just going to put it out there and let everyone know that I am 33 years old and I have never owned an Ipad. That is until now (there is my new Ipad mini just to the left there with it's new lovely navy leather cover). The move to now own three Apple devices was prompted by A. Fighting a losing battle with Milton's old Ipad and B. Discovering the joys of e-books. This fabulous e-book is going to seriously change my world as a social media manager AND little did I know that the bonus of e-books is that any amazing websites or extra resource references that the authors note throughout the book can be simply clicked on and accessed instantly through the web! Boom! (I know everyone already knew this but I was just so darn excited, I had to share).
