TOP TRENDS: From The Spring 2017 Haute Couture Shows At Paris Fashion Week
The Spring 2017 Haute Couture shows kicked off in Paris yesterday, so here’s my overview of the top trends from day one.
FRILLS + RUFFLES: "In your face" is an understatement when it comes the sheer volume and size of the frills gracing the runways yesterday. Redemption led the pack in this trend with totally oversized ruffled shoulders contrasting with body-con style silhouette mini dresses. Giambattista Valli also featured this trend in a big way with more of a nod to 80’s pretty-in-pink prom style dresses. But was more than the froufrou frills that gave some of these gowns their flashback feels, many were presented in what appears to be taffeta!
PASTELS: With frills, ruffles and tulle in every direction there was really no other colour palette that stood a chance. A dreamy, romantic vibe dominated, particularly when the softest of pastel shades made an appearance. Powder blue, soft lilac and, of course, pale pink were seen in almost all of the Haute Couture shows. It made me wonder if the 2016 Pantone Colours of the Year could actually be staying for a little while longer!
TAILORING: It was fantastic to see a return to sharp, tailored looks such as tuxedos with slim leg pants and blouses, because, let’s face it, Spring isn’t all about dresses. I think the sleek silk suit from Schiaparelli took top honours in this category.
