The final pilgrimage to Colette, Paris
My very first trip the French capital was almost 11 years ago and every time I'm lucky enough to get back, the pilgrimage to the famous shop floor of Colette on rue Saint-Honoré is without a doubt on my must do list! So when I heard the news earlier this month that the revered concept retail store was to close it was a bitter sweet moment, saddened to hear they are closing their doors after 20 years in business but also grateful that I am here in Paris right now to visit the eclectic space one last time (along with thousands of other tourists).
So off I went today to bid a fond farewell to Colette and this is what I discovered... In the months leading up to their official closure of December 20 this year, Colette Roussaux and her daughter, Sarah Andelman are dedicating the whole entire fashion floor to one single designer and this month it’s all over to Balenciaga. Truly a fresh take on collaboration for the eternal multi-brand retailer. A success? well, I must say I was pretty taken with the novelty of creating your very own custom Balenciaga t-shirt, designed by you and printed right before your eyes in-store (see images below). But in the end, I just couldn’t quite part with 225€ for a tee.
I really was hoping to walk away with a little something from Colette to mark the occasion, however, it was just nice to walk away with the memories of spending at least an hour or two perusing the racks, smelling the fragrances and reading the hand-picked collection of books and magazines that grace the famous floors of Colette.
Adieu, et merci pour les souvenirs x
